The first song opens with huge, downbeat riffs and soaring vocals. Made me think of a few bands I love but rarely listen to. It’s like running a marathon in quicksand. But then you notice the songs aren’t stuck in one gear, and with the third song the pace picks up and that’s about when you notice just how amazing the vocalist is. He can croon and scream and belt, with power and melody. There are some slow songs that have a Planet Caravan-esque moodiness that tops everything off perfectly.
